Regional Competition Details


The regional competitions are a one day event at which competitors from FE colleges in the entire region are taking part.

AGENDA FOR THE DAY
The programme for the regional competitions is as follows:

10am Arrival
10.15am Competitor briefing
10.30am Competition start
12.30pm Refreshment break
12.45pm Resume work
2.30pm Competition ends
2.35pm Judging starts
3.30pm Awards presentation

REGIONAL TASKS
The practical tasks for the regional competition will be emailed to the college tutor one week prior to attendance at a regional competition. This will allow the tutor to discuss the drawing with the apprentice prior to attendance at the regional competition.

JUDGES
The competitors' work will be judged by representatives from the various organisations that are sponsoring BPEC Plumbing Skills, as well as tutors from the college that is hosting the regional competition. The judges will be using the same marking scheme for all regional competitions.

CLOTHING
The regional competitors must wear appropriate work wear, including safety boots. BPEC will supply each competitor with a competition T-shirt to work in.

For the Sheet Leadwork competitors we will supply barrier cream. If anybody prefers to use gloves, they need to bring their own.

Here is a typical list of tools that the regional competitors need to bring along to the competition. Please note that this list might change for the 2007 regional competitions.

AWARDS PRESENTATION
At the end of the day there will be a short awards presentation, where we will hand out the following awards:

BPEC Young Plumber of the Year 2007 - Regional winner Pipework
Presented by Joint Industry Board for Plumbing

BPEC Young Plumber of the Year 2007 - Regional winner Sheet Leadwork
Presented by BPEC (Training) Ltd

The two regional winners receive a certificate of achievement and a cheque for £150.

The remaining competitors receive a certificate of achievement.

All competitors receive a selection of tools from Monument Tools.

VISITORS
The regional competitions are open to visitors. BPEC will invite local schools to take the opportunity to visit the competition, so the pupils can see for themselves the kind of work that plumbers do.

We will also invite the local newspapers, local radio stations and the trade press to come along and view the competition.
