About BPEC / Competent Person Schemes
BPEC itself does not currently operate a Competent Person Scheme or Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
Membership of a Competent Person Scheme allows suitably qualified individuals to self-certificate work that is notifiable under the Building Regulations in England and Wales for a nominal fee per job. Each scheme has its own application procedure and you should contact them directly for details. The list of scheme operators and their scope of approval is constantly changing and a full list of operators and their contact details can be seen here: Competent Person Schemes
In Scotland a similar scheme is available and is called the Approved Certifier Scheme and is operated by SNIPEF – 0131 225 2255 – www.snipef.org
Membership of a Microgeneration Certification Scheme offers similar benefits for the notification of the installation of Renewable Energy systems such as Solar Thermal Hot Water or Heat Pumps.
The list of scheme operators and their scope of approval is constantly changing and a full list of operators and their contact details can be seen here: Microgeneration Certification Schemes
Work that is notifiable under the water regulations can be self-certificated by suitably qualified members of the Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme or the local Water Supply Company scheme where one is operated. WIAPS – 01495 248454 – http://www.wras.co.uk/WIAPS/
